Guidelines to authors on submission of abstracts

Abstracts for the Annual Scientific Sessions of the SLCOG should conform to the following requirements.

  1. The presenting author is required to register before the sessions if the abstract is

selected for presentation.

  1. Underline the name of the presenting author. Names of all authors should be mentioned. Preference of presentation (Poster, Oral Presentation) should be indicated. Final Decision will be made by the Academic Committee.
  2. Please use the abstract format provided by the SLCOG and up load. The font should be Times New Roman, Font size 12. Please ensure that abstracts do not include graphs, tables or references.
  3. The abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by referees. The corresponding author will be informed of the results by 15th June 2017.
  4. All abstracts should reach the Honorary Secretary SLCOG Office, before 15.00 hours 4th June 2017. Late entries will not be accepted.
  5. The title of the abstract should be brief but adequately descriptive. If the abstract is for a case report the title should begin with: A case report of ….. (Font size 14, Times New Roman) The SLCOG reserves the right to modify the title where necessary.
  6. Author’s surname should precede the initial(s) or forename(s), but not by prefixes such as Mr, Dr or Professor. The institution(s) where the work was performed should be stated.
  7. The names of authors and place of work should be mentioned.
  8. The contact details of the corresponding author should be included.
  9. The text of the abstract should not exceed 400 words. It should be structured as follows:
  • Objectives
  • Design, setting and methods (including statistical methods where relevant)
  • Results
  • Conclusions

For case reports to be structured as follows:

  • Conclusion

SLCOG Annual Scientific Sessions 2017 – Abstract Guideline

Prospective authors are requested to refer to the abstracts of papers in a recent issue of the CMJ, BMJ or Annals of Internal Medicine for further guidance on writing abstracts.

  1. The author/s should take the public responsibility for the research work and the contents reported in the abstract.
  2. If the work has been previously presented or published, in whole or in part, this should be stated clearly. This does not disqualify a paper but must be stated when submitting the paper.
  3. The SLCOG reserves the right to make alterations and to edit text to improve presentation
  4. Abstracts not conforming to the above instructions will be rejected. Accepted abstracts will be published in the book of abstracts
  5. ORAL PRESENTATIONS: Each paper will be allowed only up to 8 minutes for presentation with 2 minutes for discussion. Parallel sessions may be conducted depending on the number of papers selected. Multimedia facilities will be provided.
  6. E-POSTER PRESENTATIONS: The size of the poster should accommodate wide TV screen as a single page only. A TV Screen will be provided to display posters.
  7. Recommended fonts for Posters: Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial as It’s possible that other fonts may have cross-operating system display issues.
  8. All “Interventional” research studies should be supported and approved by an acceptable Ethical Review Committee (ERC).
